Purchase baskets at a discount or dollar store (thrift
stores are a great place to look). Ask family and
friends to help bake goodies or make other homemade
goods to fill the baskets. Any additional baked goods
can be sold individually at a bake sale. See if other
volunteers will donate baskets full of items. Baskets
could have themes such as gardening, movie snacks,
chocolate lover, etc. The more baskets you have, the
more people will want to be part of the raffle. Set a
price for raffle tickets based on the value and
quantity of baskets you have. Include a sheet about
yourself and your program so that the winners of the
baskets can feel good about supporting your efforts.
On the day of the sale, plan to be at the raffle site
all day. Display the baskets out in a central location
such as a lobby or lunchroom. Have a volunteer stay
with the baskets and sell tickets, while you work your
way through the building selling raffle tickets. Be
sure to smile and be approachable. Later in the day
hold the drawing for the baskets and deliver them to
the winners before they go home.
Be sure to send written thank-you letters to
all of your volunteers, as well as to the facility where the
raffle was held.
Variations:
In late winter, start plants indoors: flowers, herbs,
tomatoes, etc. Hand-decorate small pots with paint or beads.
Repot the plants and raffle off your masterpieces. You can
also raffle off packages of services, like piano lessons,
mowing services, or car detailing. Be creative: almost
anything of value can be raffled. Just be sure that you
always follow through on promised services. |
