Before Travel: In addition to preparing your
sponsorship folder, when asking a business or
organization for help, be prepared with a small speech
or presentation. You can create poster boards; use a
slide projector, a chalkboard — anything to help you
clearly make your case and convince the business or
group to contribute. Look into software applications
like PowerPoint™ or Fund-Raiser Junior™.
After Travel: In return for sponsorship, you
should be prepared to give something back to the
company/organization/person sponsoring you. The “thank-you” they get for sponsoring you could range from a
postcard sent during your travels to a report or
presentation on your program once you return.

Tailor your "thank-you" to the interests
of the company or organization. If a VFW (Veterans of
Foreign Wars) club is
sponsoring you, organize a report on Normandy and the
history of World War II. If a restaurant is sponsoring
you, give them a report on the different foods you
tried or bring back a recipe to make
for them.
No matter who sponsors you, it is important to
acknowledge their gift to you. Bring a
list of addresses with you on the program so
you can write your postcards during travel or free
time (if they are part of your thank-you plan).

Sponsors have two options:
1) Make checks payable to People to People Programs.
(Provide your sponsor with a copy of the
contribution
form.)
2) Make checks payable to you, the delegate. You can
then deposit donations into a bank account, and write
a check payable to us from that account.
Please ask your sponsors to clearly mark their donations with the name of the individual making the contribution, and the name and ID number of the delegate receiving the contribution.
According to current IRS guidelines, donations
earmarked for a specific individual are NOT
tax-deductible. Please consult your family’s tax
advisor for more detailed information. |
